What's New

Every time the guide is updated, details will appear on this page.

September 7, 2004: Pictures of the Charlottetown Civic Centre, home of the PEI Rocket. From intrepid photographer Craig Howlett.

September 5, 2004: As promised, the Galt Arena Gardens.

September 4, 2004: A whirlwind tour of the Kitchener-Waterloo-Guelph area brought me in contact with a number of new buildings. There's finally a great digital shot of the front of the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium, and while in Guelph I snapped a picture of the late Paul Fendley. I also had opportunity to visit Junior B rinks in Waterloo, Guelph and Elmira. Finally, I got to visit Ontario's oldest operating arena, the gorgeous Galt Arena Gardens, which will appear in a new page of its own sometime within the next couple days. The Galt Black Hawks played there in the 1950's, which means it's a former OHL building, and as such will receive its own individual page.

August 27, 2004: I've been to Chicago over this past week and stopped in Windsor and Detroit to take pictures, so there are new exterior shots of Windsor Arena and Cobo Arena.

August 18, 2004: I'm in the process of recoding the site to conform with W3C's HTML markup validator. If you notice anything wonky, blame the recoding process.

August 11, 2004: I've added Franchise Histories to every current team's page. Check the individual pages for the new information!

August 10, 2004: Welcome "Speedo" to the Hall of Fame! Also, I went to Listowel in the daytime and took the appropriate picture.

August 3, 2004: New digital exterior pictures of St. Michael's College Arena and Maple Leaf Gardens.

July 26, 2004: A new picture of the Leamington Recreation Complex and an aerial photo of the JLC. Huzzah for Uncle Rick and his Piper Archer!

July 15, 2004: I've now got my internet back after having moved on July 10. I apologise for any delays in responding to emails. I have big plans for the new hockey season with regards to this site but I'm keeping things well under wraps for now. Keep checking back for more updates!

June 29, 2004: Finally, a picture and information from Newmarket! I've also added new digital pictures from the Barrie Molson Centre and the Barrie Arena, and a night shot of the Junior B Listowel Memorial Arena. Now only Cornwall has no pictures at all on the page... come on, correspondents!

June 24, 2004: Another new entrant for the Hall of Fame!

June 23, 2004: A new picture of the Talbot Inn facade at the John Labatt Centre and new historical information about the Hamilton Forum.

June 20, 2004: No new information, but I've reorganised the Junior B section into the three OHA divisions to make it easier to navigate. I've also added links to Junior B arenas already on the Guide due to OHL connections, and posted the "coming soon" list of Junior B arenas I still need to visit.

June 3, 2004: A writeup and new picture from the Robert Guertin Arena, courtesy Jason Cormier. I also have added some information about the Cornwall Civic Complex and have posted a few new Ticket Stubs from North Bay, courtesy Chris North.

May 25, 2004: A new picture from Brantford following my recent visit, as well as a picture of the site of the former Hamilton Forum. I've also added the Junior B rink from Stoney Creek.

May 15, 2004: New Junior B pictures from Fort Erie and Port Colborne.

May 12, 2004: A picture of Robert Guertin Arena from Kathryn Jean. Also, Sault Ste. Marie is getting a new arena.

May 10, 2004: New exterior pictures from Mississauga and Brampton.

May 4, 2004: New exterior pictures from Belleville, Kingston and Oshawa, and extended writeups as well. The OHL Arena & Travel Guide's first full hockey season is now in the books, with the OHL championship to be decided any day now and my travels more than likely finished for the year. Over the summer I will continue to answer email, and there will probably be some updates as well as my digitisation photo project continues. In the meantime, have a great summer, OHL fans, and see you in the fall!

April 19, 2004: A new writeup and photo from Guelph following my recent visit. The ticket stub is scanned.

April 17, 2004: A new page, photo and writeup for the Oak Park Ice Arena, the one-time temporary home of the Detroit Whalers.

April 11, 2004: A writeup for the Ottawa Civic Centre, by Sports Nut.

April 5, 2004: Finally got the ol' digital camera out to the John Labatt Centre. Two new pictures are up and they're much better. Trust me. I also slightly modified the banner on the front page, adding the centre-ice dot from Erie and a digital shot from London. The odd rink out was Kingston, now deleted, because the picture of the KMC dot was low-quality, but it will be re-added once I complete the 20. Only Peterborough, Sault, Belleville and Kingston to go!

April 4, 2004: A complete update following my recent trip to Erie, including a writeup, pictures, and ticket stub. I've also added a North Bay Centennials ticket from 1998, courtesy Jason Hodgson.

In addition, I've added a page about the one-year home of the Ottawa 67's - the Robert Guertin Arena in Hull, Quebec. Finally, I've got a new exterior picture from the Tullio Arena in Erie - taken during daylight this time!

March 24, 2004: New pictures from the St Marys Area Arena and Stratford on the Junior B page, plus a complete gallery of Stratford's gorgeous William Allman Memorial Arena.

March 22, 2004: A new post-renovation shot of the exterior of the Peterborough Memorial Centre from Chris Mayberry.

March 20, 2004: Finally, an exterior picture of the Oshawa Civic Auditorium! Thanks to Chris Mayberry. I've also added some arena insights by the intrepid Sports Nut on the Guelph and Sarnia pages. Finally, QMJHL correspondent Todd Faber has graciously sent pictures of the Central Maine Civic Center in Lewiston and the Colisée Bois-Francs in Victoriaville, both on the CHL Arena Page.

March 15, 2004: A slightly changed write-up after my recent second visit to Saginaw, along with two new pictures and ticket stub. I've also got Chris Mayberry's ticket stubs from the 1970's online.

March 8, 2004: Excellent new pictures following my recent trip to Kitchener, courtesy my amazing digital camera. They make the older pictures from Kitchener look terrible by comparison. The ticket stub is scanned. I also added a few shots of the Kinsmen Arena attached to the Aud, which is home of Kitchener's Midwestern Junior B team, the Dutchmen. I also received a treasure-trove of old ticket stubs from Chris Mayberry, which will unfortunately have to wait until I have a little more time.

February 29, 2004: Happy Leap Day! A new picture inside Tullio Arena from correspondent Chris Mayberry.

February 28, 2004: The former building superintendent of the Guelph Memorial Gardens was kind enough to take me on a guided tour of the building today. My new digital camera captured the action like my old 35mm never would have been able to. Huzzah!

I've added a picture from 1967 of the old Guelph Memorial Gardens. I've added the West Middlesex Memorial Centre, home of the Strathroy Rockets, to the Junior B page. Part Three, the conclusion of the trilogy, should be online sometime next week and will feature pictures from North Bay and Sudbury.

February 4, 2004: Part One of a massive update. I've got the pictures from Saginaw developed and online. I've added a writeup from my recent visits to Sudbury and North Bay. The ticket stub from Sudbury is online. Pictures are coming soon. I'm currently swamped by a major essay and a midterm, but coming soon in part 2: Pictures of the Junior B Strathroy Rockets' home, the West Middlesex Memorial Centre. A complete writeup of the Barrie Arena, former home to the Barrie Flyers. A short writeup for the Hamilton Forum, now torn down, and once home to the Hamilton Red Wings, and a few other reader submissions. Coming soon!

January 21, 2004: Sports Nut has provided me with some full updates from Belleville, Sudbury and the Sault. They're really good!

January 16, 2004: I finally got rid of that minimalist, tacky graphic on the main page in exchange for a new image I photoshopped together. In case you're wondering, the image directly under the words "Travel Guide" is the Sarnia Sting's 10th anniversary logo. The one in the bottom right-hand corner that's hard to make out is Kingston. I'm planning to add another layer to that graphic once I'm at 16 rinks, and another layer again once I hit 20. Also, Peter from Barrie submitted a few pictures of the BMC, the best one is up on the Colts page.

January 14, 2004: Another new entrant to the Hall of Fame. Congratulations, Trev!

I've also re-scanned the interior shots from the Kitchener Aud and they look a lot better now. And finally, we have our second member of the All 20 Hall of Fame! Congratulations DangerGirl and thanks for all the photos.

December 14, 2003: A complete review of the Sarnia S&EC is now online following my recent visit. The ticket stub is scanned. Pictures are, as always, forthcoming. In addition, I've recently visited the Sarnia Arena and the Brantford Civic Centre. Again, pictures will be online once my film is developed, but there are writeups for your reading pleasure. I need a digital camera.

October 20, 2003: The Majors page has been updated following my recent visit for a game. In addition, I've scanned the ticket stub. I've also been sent a good picture of the Peterborough Memorial Centre which is up, thanks to Kevin Fox for providing it. And finally, big news from Oshawa, it seems like their new rink may finally be built. Check the page for details.
