What's New

Every time the guide is updated, details will appear on this page.

September 3, 2005: I've split the former CHL page into separate WHL and QMJHL pages, and added pictures of Saint John, Moncton, and St John's to the QMJHL page.

September 2, 2005: Proposed architectural drawings of the new arena in Kingston.

September 1, 2005: This upcoming season promises to be less update-intensive than the past one because of one very good reason: I have moved to St John's, Newfoundland. I should have 2005-06 ticket prices up soon, and the new massive update will be released the week of the upcoming season; in addition, I have a few QMJHL pictures from the trip out that will be posted online soon. In addition, I've re-read the entire site and made numerous small corrections and updates. Keep the submissions coming!

August 18, 2005: The massive, long-delayed, long-promised upcoming update project is finally finished and will be released in the week of the start of the new season in September. In the meantime, the Sault Greyhounds have released a commemorative logo for the Sault Gardens, which is entering its last season of hockey. I've got it posted on the Hounds page. If you haven't been up yet, go.

August 14, 2005: A new entrant to the Hall of Fame.

July 25, 2005: The long, hot, hockey-free days of summer breeze by, and one of our periodic summer updates has finally rolled around. This one features a new City Guide for Barrie, which brings the unguided city total down to two (Ottawa and Sudbury). Also new, and designed to get you excited for the upcoming NHL season, is a terrific exterior shot of the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. Finally, we've also added Junior B shots of the Tecumseh Arena, which brings my own unvisited Junior B rinks list down to three.

June 30, 2005: This is definitely an experiment, but I've decided to create a forum so that visitors to this site can interact with one another and discuss the OHL, arenas, and other related topics. Stop by and sign up today! It's located at http://www.ohlarenaguide.com/forum.

June 29, 2005: The Guide has now moved to a dedicated server! The past week's upheaval should be finished by now, and the new server is vastly superior to the old one. Please update your bookmarks, as the old prohosting.com domain name is obsolete and will eventually be closed. Use ohlarenaguide.com exclusively to access the site from now on. Special thanks to Spirit fan Paul at mysecurebiz.com for providing web hosting.

June 21, 2005: Our tour of the Midwestern Junior B loop is complete with pictures from Orangeville.

June 12, 2005: The Junior B London Nationals are moving to the Western Fair Sports Centre for the 2005-06 season. New pictures on the Junior B page.

June 4, 2005: The last update of the 2004-05 season sees two new ticket stubs from the Knights' OHL championship and the Memorial Cup final. We also have a new member of the Hall of Fame. In addition, I have added past tournament hosts to the Memorial Cup page. Over the summer I will be updating sporadically as new submissions come in and as I travel. As for the long-promised new feature, it has been delayed for the summer and will be launched officially at the opening of the 2005-06 season.

May 14, 2005: The writeup from Ottawa has been altered slightly after my recent visit for Game 4 of the OHL finals, and the ticket stub is scanned.

April 29, 2005: A new interior picture from the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium following my recent visit. The ticket stub is scanned. I also have finally been sent the long-promised Maple Leaf Gardens interior shot from Chris the Mung-Faced.

April 15, 2005: News: The Brampton Centre has been renamed the Powerade Centre. I've also got a new picture from my eastern road trip online, of the Si Miller Arena in Cornwall, which was once home to the QMJHL Royals.

April 11, 2005: A new picture and altered writeup from the new, more subdued Windsor Arena following my recent visit. The ticket stub is scanned. I also now have pictures online from the Chatham Memorial Arena. If you've emailed me in the past little while, I apologise for not having gotten back to you, I will write back, I am just in the midst of fourth-year University exams and my free time is at a premium.

April 1, 2005: A new entrant to the Hall of Fame! Plus, the ticket stub from my recent playoff visit to Guelph.

March 20, 2005: A modified writeup and new pictures from Plymouth following my recent visit. The ticket stub is scanned. I also made trips to the Palace of Auburn Hills and Oak Park Ice Arena to take new pictures.

March 10, 2005: New pictures of QMJHL buildings from Halifax-based Q correspondent QMJHLFan. Updates include Shawinigan, Quebec, and Victoriaville. In addition, we have our first Frontenacs fan in the Hall of Fame.

March 1, 2005: A new picture and slightly adjusted writeup from Sarnia following my recent visit. The ticket stub is scanned as usual.

February 23, 2005: Somehow in the hustle and bustle of updating after the Eastern road trip I forgot I had taken digital pictures of the Montréal Forum. Which I did. So they're on now.

February 22, 2005: A new, better exterior photo from Niagara Falls.

February 18, 2005: A somewhat rewritten profile and new digital pictures from Brampton following my recent visit. The ticket stub has been scanned, as have the stubs from my recent visits to Saginaw and Guelph. In addition, I've been sent photos of the fire that destroyed the old arena in Oshawa in the 1950's which are now online in the "Franchise History" section of the Generals page.

In addition, now that I've finally got some time I have started work on a massive and exciting new feature which should be online within the next couple of weeks.

January 30, 2005: The profile and pictures from both Ottawa and Hull are now online, as are the ticket stubs from my trip. I've also got submitted pictures online from the Portland Memorial Coliseum, home of the WHL's Winter Hawks, and inside the Halifax Metro Centre, home of the Halifax Mooseheads. This takes care of all of the backlog from my trip, but stay tuned for an exciting new feature within the next couple of weeks.

January 27, 2005: Kingston's profile and pictures are now online, as are pictures from Drummondville, Québec.

January 25, 2005: Peterborough's profile and pictures are up.

January 24, 2005: The page for the Belleville Bulls is now online, as is the last picture-less building on the website, the Cornwall Civic Complex. It also bothered me in a very low-key way that I never had an exterior picture from Ottawa, so that's up too. Other updates and profiles are forthcoming. The ticket stubs will also be up presently.

January 24, 2005: A new banner on the main page featuring digital photos has been uploaded. I'm back from the eastern road trip and have, at long last, added myself to the Hall of Fame. Coming within the next week or so will be updated profiles from Belleville, Kingston, Ottawa and Peterborough, as well as ticket stubs, photos, pictures from old buildings in Montreal, Hull, and Cornwall, and QMJHL pictures from Drummondville. Stay tuned as well for a couple of new features within the next couple weeks.

January 16, 2005: New Junior B pictures from Strathroy. There are no old-style Junior B photos left on the site - they're all digital now. I've also got a new ticket stub following my most recent trip to Kitchener. On Wednesday I'll be leaving for my road trip to Belleville, Peterborough, Kingston, Drummondville and Ottawa, so check back next week for a massive update!

January 7, 2005: Happy new year! The Windsor page has been updated with modified writeup and new picture following my recent visit. The ticket stub has been scanned.

December 28, 2004: What is almost certainly the last update of 2004 is a welcome one - a new writeup and picture from my recent and long-overdue visit to Copps Coliseum in Hamilton.

December 17, 2004: A very Merry Christmas to all my readers. I have some big plans for the upcoming year, including completing all twenty rinks in mid-January and continuing the digitisation project, plus an upcoming major addition to the Guide in late January. For now, we've got another proud member of the Hall of Fame.

December 4, 2004: Sweet, sweet holidays. I've finally got new pictures and redone writeup online following my recent voyage to Erie. The ticket stub is online as well.

November 26, 2004: A new picture of Saginaw following my recent visit for NOOFapalooza V. The ticket stub is scanned as always.

November 11, 2004: A new interior picture from the Brantford Civic Centre has been posted online, as the number of old non-digital photos left here gradually shrinks. I have also received the Sarnia city guide from Buzzer, which is online now.

November 7, 2004: A new interior picture following my recent visit to Toronto St. Michael's. In a marvel of fortuitous timing, the Toronto City Guide has also been submitted and is online. The ticket stub is scanned.

October 24, 2004: New pictures from Owen Sound following my recent visit, and the writeup has been slightly modified. The ticket stub is scanned. In addition, I've got me a copy of the 2004-05 OHL media guide, and thus all capacity figures have been adjusted to their "official" numbers.

October 22, 2004: Two new pictures from inside the Hamilton Forum.

October 14, 2004: A new picture of the Olympic Saddledome in Calgary, from a contributor who prefers to remain anonymous.

October 12, 2004: Back from Sault Ste. Marie via Manitoulin Island. The fall colours were beautiful along the way, and more importantly, the Sault Memorial Gardens now has a full writeup with pictures! The ticket stub, as always, has been scanned. In addition, Sudbury's number one radio guy Jason Hodgson has provided me with vastly improved digital pictures of Sudbury Arena, including a shot of the famous wolf. I've also got new pictures from Owen Sound and the Sarnia Arena.

October 4, 2004: The Oshawa Civic Auditorium page has been completely redone with a totally new writeup and digital picture following my recent visit. There are also new digital pictures available from Saginaw and Sarnia. In addition, the Owen Sound city guide has been finished, thanks to Sounder CHL Watcher. Finally, there is a new Junior B interior picture from London. Ticket stubs are online. Finally, all 2004-05 ticket prices are up. Brampton is once again cheapest, while Windsor is the most expensive, and Sault Ste. Marie has the best family deal. Speaking of the Sault, there's only a week to go until my trip; I'm looking forward to it immensely.

September 26, 2004: Plymouth now has a City Guide compliments of Danger Girl, plus there are two new Ticket Stubs from the first weekend of the season.

September 24, 2004: Happy 2004-05! The regular season begins this weekend and changes have been made. First of all, the domain name ohlarenaguide.com has been registered to make it easier to find this site. All ticket prices have been updated for the new season except for Peterborough, which I haven't been able to find. Finally, the major new feature for this year is City Guides, which have been compiled over the summer thanks to a number of correspondents. Check individual team pages for the city writeups! As of today 13 are done and I have promises about Sarnia, Owen Sound, Sudbury and Ottawa, which only leaves Barrie, Plymouth and Toronto completely undone. If you're a resident and would like to write something about your city, email me. Enjoy the season, and make sure to check Travel Plans frequently for upcoming road trips!
